Multifactor Stress Committee

Objectives:
The Multifactor Stress Committee exists to provide guidance in the means of assessing the reliability of insulating materials and systems operating under multifactor stresses.

Past Achievements:
In the early 1990’s, when under the chairmanship of V.J.Agarwal it issued guidelines for a protocol for multifactor testing. In subsequent meetings it became clear that the complex nature of the problem made it difficult to advance to an all-embracing standard. It was decided that the committee could best fulfil its purpose by acting as a means of disseminating information and understanding of multifactor stress ageing to the research field. Consequently a very well attended workshop was held at CEIDP in Victoria, Canada in 2000. Electronic copies of the presentations of most of the speakers were made available on request to the current co-chairman, L.A.Dissado.

Current and Future Activities:
One result of that workshop has been the growing realisation that local energy concentrations play a big role in determining the extent of ageing degradation. This suggested to the co-chair that one way of estimating the effect of multifactor stresses is to determine the energy concentration that is produced. It is intended to introduce this as a topic for discussion at forthcoming meetings.

Meetings:
A meeting will be held at the forthcoming CEIDP conference in Albuquerque, and arrangements are under discussion for a 1-day workshop to be held outside of CEIDP in 2004.
